Top Ten Dive Bars in America, hole in the wall, live music, cheap drinks

Northside Tavern is an Atlanta landmark. Built in the 1940’s as a neighborhood grocery store/gas station, it evolved over the years into a blue-collar bar called Northside Package. A fixture of the area and a stopping place of refreshment for many years, this lively musical gathering spot has been under continuous ownership by the same family since 1975. It hit its stride as a Blues Club under the guidance of Ellyn Webb, the original owner’s daughter and after her death, is now owned and managed by her brother Tommy. It is fair to say that every and all noteworthy Atlanta blues musician has been on its stage and many traveling artists as well.

With the help of long-time Atlanta blues artist Mudcat, the site has hosted many special musical events and Festivals, including the iconic Chicken Raid, held in honor of the legendary Atlanta blues artist Frank Edwards. Recently, Northside has been used as a backdrop for many movies and television shows with the advent of Atlanta’s burgeoning film industry. After being closed for many weeks due to the COVID pandemic, Northside is once again back in action, bringing us all the great blues acts we have come to expect from this truly legendary Atlanta Venue. The only club to have music 7 nights a week, Northside is the place to go to hear the best blues in Atlanta and partake in its famous bar which is known for stiff drinks and also serves up beer and wine. This place should be on every blues lover’s bucket list.
