BreezeFest ’23 a Hit!
Well, well, well, if you missed this years BreezeFest, you missed one heck of a Bluesapaloosa! The Northside Tavern rocked from 6pm Friday ’til Midnight Sunday, with performances by 22 of your favorite local bands. Friday and Saturday were packed to the rafters with enthusiastic blues fans – at some points, there was a line to get in!
BreezeFest has become an annual event, designed to celebrate the life of our dearly departed Carlos Capote – a key figure in the Atlanta blues scene until his untimely death in 2021.
Guest bands included Uncle Albert from St. Louis, comprised of Terri Capote’s oldest brother Tim on vocals and guitar, and his lovely wife Lisa on keyboards and vocals. The revitalized Breeze Kings played, with two newcomers, Shawn Adam Williams, on vocals and harp, and Angel Ocasio Jr, on guitar and vocals. Kudos to Sandra Senn and Dennis Stephenson for backing them up on a very special set, during which those of us in attendance definitely felt that Carlos was in the room.
Special thanks go out to all of the volunteers who helped make the show such a success: Joe Loftus and Stephen Talkovich, sound and tech support, and the following members for working the door and raffle: Lee Ann Brooks, Scott and Susan Frink (Friday & Saturday) Dave Daniels (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) Kitty, Donald King (Saturday and Sunday), Sabrina Carpenter (Friday and Saturday) Jon Harmon, David Black, Krystine Torella, Kathy Holmes, Ron Rubel and Barb Daniels.
Thanks also go out to Tommy Webb, the great staff of the Northside Tavern and the indefatigable Terri Capote!!
