It is with deep and profound sadness that the Atlanta Blues Society announces the passing of our esteemed President Emeritus, George Klein.
The Board of Directors and members of the Atlanta Blues Society are heartbroken by this tremendous loss. George was not only a guiding force and a dedicated leader who helped shape the success of ABS over many years, but he was also a cherished friend to so many within our organization and the wider Blues community.
George’s passion, vision, and tireless support for the Blues extended far beyond Atlanta – his influence and love for this music reached across the nation and the world. His impact will be felt for generations to come, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void in our community and our hearts.
We extend our most sincere condolences and prayers to George’s daughters, Megan and Amy, their respective families, grandson Sam, and the entire Klein family. We continue to hold them close in our hearts as they grieve not only this loss, but also the recent passing of George’s beloved wife, Betty.
The family is deeply saddened by this loss but finds comfort in knowing that George is once again united with his beloved soulmate Betty. To paraphrase what son-in-law Jason so beautifully stated, “They needed to be together more than George needed to be here.”
George became ill unexpectedly and quickly, yet true to his enduring spirit, he fought back with remarkable courage and determination. We were blessed and thrilled to have him join us at the ABS Blues Challenge in August and again at the WRFG Labor Day BBQ in September. Sadly, his body could not continue the fight, and we have lost a great leader, mentor, and friend.
The entire Atlanta Blues Society mourns the loss of a man whose leadership, friendship, and love for the Blues will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are pending at this time. We respectfully ask that everyone allow the Klein family time and privacy as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.
