Our annual membership gathering and George Carlin show this past Sunday at Blind Willie’s was jam packed and full of fun and friendship, our host The Sweet and Salty Blues Band kicked the day off with an hour long set of great music doing a fantastic job of getting the large crowd fired up and enjoying themselves.
George/Carlin gave a State of the ABS address and then presented an Honorary Lifetime Member certificate to Diane Durrett. Diane is a long time Atlanta Blues Society member, Musician sponsor, band leader and has hosted and choreographed three extremely successful Women in Blues shows for the ABS.
Then Wes took the reins and got the Jam started which lasted for the next two hours, highlighting a large number of the areas very talented players and singers, including the debut performance of Chequered Blue’s new singer, Ashley Bishop, backed up by the band.
In addition to raffling off two bottles of Cathead Vodka and CD packages, we gave away two tickets to Cannonball Red and the Headhunters show at the BM Franklin company in Buckhead, and thanks to Capricorn Communications, two sets of two tickets to see Buddy Guy perform at the Savannah Music Festival on March 25th and 26th, with Eric Gales, King Solomon Hicks, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Jontavious Willis opening for him, valued at $400+. As always the proceeds from these raffles go to our Blue Flame Fund to help our local musicians in times of need, and yesterdays raffle brought in over $400.
