Share your Love of the Blues with Others
Would you like to host your own blues radio show? Volunteer-run community radio station WRFG 89.3 FM has one “Good Morning Blues” timeslot currently open, and additional timeslots may be opening in the near future. Station management wishes to welcome interested Atlanta Blues Society members to come aboard.
To prepare you for being on the air, WRFG holds periodic broadcast classes. A class is currently in process but WRFG expects to announce when the next session will take place soon. Registrants attend a total of six 2-hour classes, either on-line or in-person, before moving on to apprentice with a current show host. After successfully completing your apprenticeship, you can then apply for an open airshift.
“Good Morning Blues” airs every weekday morning, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 to 10:00 AM, with two different hosts each morning, one from 6:00 to 8:00 AM, and another from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. The station is moving back to live broadcasting so you would need to be live in the studio for your show. The station is located inside of the Little Five Points Community Center at 1083 Austin Ave., NE.
On-air volunteers are also expected to donate at least $120 a year (which can be paid all at once, or in quarterly or monthly installments) to the station and devote additional time, at their convenience, to off-air activities, such as fundraising, station concerts and events, or office work.
To register for a future broadcast class, please contact Christopher Hollis at 404-523-3471, or email him at [email protected].
